In essence, what you guys are saying is one and the same. I think it's about finding the ideal balance between the two. I agree with what you're saying - what's the point in writing (or, indeed, reading) a 3000 word epic which is technically sound but not enjoyable to read? In the same way, though, you can have an entertaining scenario, characters etc, but if it's difficult to decipher because the technical side of the writing has been neglected (and I'm talking really neglected - nobody's expecting to constantly see the sort of stuff you'd read in a novel), then it simply becomes less entertaining. I don't think I've said it very clearly, but you get what I'm saying I agree that it's probably more important to be able to imagine and write engaging characters and be able to place them in entertaining scenarios, but I still think the quality of the writing in technical terms should still count for something.

Yes, for sure. I'm sorry if I gave the impression that the technical skills should be ignored. Please, use spell check, grammar check, etc. I always read and re-read my posts...and still miss somethings, so don't try to be perfect. Just make an attempt. Proper word usage, sentence structure, etc. All good stuff. I just meant, if I need to jump to Webster's every five or six words, you're just trying too hard. Or if I'm bored to death because the post is really, really long...some people think those things are traits of a better writer. Most of you have the technical skills though, so I didn't think it really needed to be addressed.

I didn't even realize this was a debate about anything.

more a discussion then a debate.
Filler is easy enough to avoid, just make sure everything in your RP has a reason to be there.

Honestly, I'm starting to think I don't belong here...

Honestly, I'm starting to think I don't belong here... Don't be daft. What makes you say that?

Listen i wasnt trying to start any great debates or make any other person in this fed question if they should stick around, I was just saying that there is some really good talent here. I wasnt being negative about myself i know if i keep facing off against strong competitors then I will only get better and thats the mind set that everyone else should have. As for the whole grammer storytelling thing i understand where all parties are coming from, a great strory will get lost its its filled with fragments and runons wich i think may be the same thing.
Anyway Mr. Dixon you best stick around because like i said before the only way to go is up, plus Im pretty sure your top of the rankings so dont fret or loose spirit.

Yeah. We weren't debating, just discussing. I was actually trying to...I dunno...let Curt know that he shouldn't count himself out.
Andre Dixon belongs here. Don't be silly. You show up and work hard. Your character is a good read. Can't wait to see you develop.

Honestly, I'm starting to think I don't belong here... Well, this is something that has been bugging me since Lance Stevens last week. Just because you lose a match, does not mean you don't belong. And just because some of analyse this game WAY too much (me included) doesn't mean you don't belong. A well written trash talk RP that focuses on wrestling CAN beat a story/character development ...and vice versa. Just because we all have different styles and I mean that, the contrast between many of the RPers here is MASSIVE, doesn't mean that somebody doesn't fit in. In fact, it means the contrary. It makes for more interesting match ups with say a trash talk writer going up against a character development writer or a hybrid going up against a strictly story guy. And that means just about anyone can win. As far as it goes to losing. This past week REALLY disappointed me with some of the reactions to losses. One straight up quit, I believe another flaked, and one doesn't think he belongs just because of a loss. You just had a week where someone was able to get up maybe slightly better stuff ...that is all. You can easily get it back. People lose ...no one will ever be undefeated for throughout their whole e-wrestling career (because writing five star RPs is draining and it is HARD to keep that momentum). Look at all of us in the main event ...do you think ANY of us are going to quit after the match where we all put out VERY quality stuff? No, because the truth is, four of us are going to lose and we at least built good tension between the characters via these RPs. Losing is just as good an inspiration as winning ...sometimes more. And that isn't to say that it should be your inspiration to changing your style to something like the rest of us are doing ...that is boring. But it will make you want to take that style you have and take it to new heights. And seriously Andre, you are at the top of the leader board and were on a pretty good winning streak. One loss isn't going to hurt that dominance the character had. And this five way isn't the end all be all of who is the main event in the fed. Again, on paper, and the way you portray it, your character is still the most dominant. Basically ...don't give up. Don't worry what everyone else is doing and focus on what you can do with your character to have fun here. As said, I like your style of trash talk and think it runs a good contrast to some of us who are a little more long winded.

I'm at work and don't have time to fully reply and explain but as soon as I do have time I will. I just wanted to point out to Alexis that this isn't because I lost. If it was I wouldn't have even bothered rping this week.(I know my first rp wasn't very good put I didn't have much time this week and just wanted to get one up so I could get the 2 up. I thought my second was much better.) That's not what this is about at all. More about styles. Again I'll explain later. I don't want people to think I said that because I lost because that's not the case and I wouldn't take away from Dan and Douglas like that. Again I'll explain later and also never said I was quitting.

Andre you can very much hang with anyone here in SCW in terms of rp'ing skills. So if you think your "style" isn't favored... don't think that way. Quality writing is quality writing... period.
